Paralyzed Veterans of America Received Over $1 million Donation from Penske Automotive Group

Graphic 2 (1)

WASHINGTON, March 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Paralyzed Veterans of America – the nation’s premier nonprofit of choice for disabled veterans, their families, and caregivers – today announced it received a donation of more than $1 million from long-time partner and veteran supporter Penske Automotive Group. The amount includes donations from Penske Automotive Group and Premier Truck Group, alongside a company match of $500,000.

“The entire PVA Family – to include our members, volunteers, and staff across the U.S. – cannot thank Penske Automotive Group, Penske Truck Group, their employees, and generous customers enough for their heartfelt donations and ongoing support,” said Charles Brown, national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America. “With inflation rates rising and COVID-19’s impact still being felt, these funds are vital, greatly appreciated, and will continue to go towards delivering on our mission of providing more life-changing programs and services to support our veterans in need.”

Penske Automotive Group has raised more than $7 million since becoming a PVA partner in 2015. This year’s donation, which was part of Penske Automotive Group’s 2021 Service Matters campaign, will go directly towards helping veterans with spinal cord injuries and diseases, like MS and ALS, with quality, specialized medical care and treatments, the accessible vehicles and homes they need, the jobs they want, and the benefits they deserve.

“There is no greater way to kick off our eighth year of partnership with PVA than by bestowing them with a donation to help our nation’s veterans,” said Robert H. Kurnick Jr., Penske Automotive Group President. “This donation would not be what it is today without our customers and employees, who have embraced PVA’s important work, generously gave, and supported our initiative from the start – and we thank them all. As we enter a new year, we look forward to supporting even more veterans and helping them live fuller, more productive, and independent lives.”

Women in the Driver’s Seat: Jenny Riggs

Women in the Drivers Seat option 4
Penske Automotive Group is proud to have female leaders at every level of the organization. From Service Advisors and Sales Managers to General Managers and Fixed Operations Directors, the retail automotive industry offers women an exciting place to forge a career.  Beyond the numbers, this is about unleashing the power of our people and utilizing their unique talents, experiences, and backgrounds to create an engaging work environment and world-class operation.

Every Monday for the past 5 weeks, we have featured a female leader from the Penske organization who is empowering women in the automotive industry and paving the road for the next generation of female leaders. From their earliest interest in the industry to their proudest moments, you’ve learned how these women got their start, who influenced them the most, and how they are helping change the face of the industry in positive ways.

Featured Female Leader: Jenny Riggs – Area Controller
“Learn as many job functions within a dealership as you can. There are so many different aspects to every dealership, the more you know, the more valuable you are.”

Jenny Riggs has worked in the automotive industry for 32 years and currently serves as the Area Controller for the Indianapolis and Upper Midwest areas.  In her current role, Jenny is responsible for managing over 30 employees, accurately reporting financial statements for nine general ledgers, and making sure it is done following PAG policies and procedures, within a good internal control environment. “I really enjoy assisting customers and training employees on new job functions and tasks,” she says.

Jenny has had several memorable moments throughout her career, but she is most proud of the position she holds today. “I never dreamed of being the Area Controller, especially for the number of dealerships I currently work with. I am also proud of the role I played when Penske purchased dealerships, where I assisted with the buy/sell closing process and office set-up once the stores became PAG dealerships.”

The best career advice Jenny received was from her previous controller who told her to “always learn from your mistakes” and “when learning a new task or position, don’t take notes that you can understand today, take notes that you cannot misunderstand tomorrow.” It seemed simple at the time, but it is something Jenny still tells employees today.  For women considering a career in the automotive industry, Jenny advises, “Learn as many job functions within a dealership as you can. The more you know, the more valuable you are.”

Jenny has noticed more opportunities for women in the automotive industry over the last several years. “I think it is important that women have an equal opportunity to succeed in any job,” she says. In five years, Jenny hopes to still be working in the automotive industry, either in the same role or in a position where she can assist and train employees.  “I am very fortunate to have been given the opportunities to work in a variety of positions at many different levels.  I think much of my success is due to the fact that I learned as many job functions within the accounting office as I could, and that helped me excel in my career.”

In her spare time, Jenny enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

Featured Female Leader: Collier Lewis – Area Admin Atlanta Management

“When there is an opportunity to speak up, do it. Your voice is important and vital.”

Collier Lewis has worked in the automotive industry for over four years. Collier started with Penske Automotive Group in 2016 as a part time receptionist and moved into a finance administrator position after graduating college. Collier is currently the Area Admin for the Atlanta Management team where she assists with the Atlanta stores. Collier has enjoyed learning about the different aspects of the dealership and what her peers do on daily basis. She enjoys the ever-changing nature of the automotive industry and finds satisfaction in interacting with customers. “I have always been a people person and wanted to work in an industry where no day is like the day before,” she says. One of Collier’s proudest professional achievements was being asked to join the Penske management training program. “It showed me that the company really valued me and I saw that I had a great opportunity to grow within the organization,” she says. Collier doesn’t hesitate when asked who has been the biggest influence on her career. “My mother has always supported my dreams and told me I could do it.”

Collier advises young women considering a career in automotive industry to “speak up when there is an opportunity. Most importantly, be confident and know that you can do anything that you put your mind to. We have to power to take over this industry by leaps and bounds.” Asked how the automotive industry landscape has changed to engage more women, Collier says: “The automotive industry has evolved and offers a lot of opportunity for women. More and more women are working in service drives, finance roles, and general manager positions.” In the next five years, Collier hopes to be working in a Human Resources role.

In her free time, Collier enjoys spending time outdoors, trying new restaurants and hiking. She will graduate with her MBA in HR next Fall.
